The reason I came to JRC was because I was having problems with my family members and I was having problems in school. I would get very aggressive towards my family and peers. In school, I would never attend my classes. Sometimes I would hurt myself when I didn’t feel like hurting other people. I took a lot of medications because I was diagnosed with Bipolar Type I and Schizophrenia. At one point, I started to hurt myself and I didn’t want to live. My mother placed me in a hospital for 9 months and they started looking for a safer place for me to live and to get the help I needed.

Since I have been at JRC, the program has helped me a little. The good things are that I haven’t hurt myself and I have been doing my academics. I have been here for 4 months and I have been the “Academic Student of the Week” twice. My family problems have been getting better. I am still working on changing my attitude and handling situations in a positive way. Things take time, and I am going to continue working on it.

My future goal is to go to college or become a hairdresser. Since I was 12 years old I have been doing my friends’ hair. I am able to do my own hair without someone helping me. I would also like to be a foster mom for disabled children.
