JRC has created a special web site for use by its students. All staff, students and former students have access to the JRC Student Web Site. The web site is a source of information for both staff and students and has the features described in this newsletter.

1.  Discussion Board

A very exciting part of the student web site is the discussion board (below is a typical screen). This is a forum in which students and staff share and discuss ideas. Messages can be posted and replied to. Each post must be composed with correct spelling and grammar and this serves as a valuable added learning experience in English composition. Students are encouraged to post in several different ways. Each classroom has a specific time set aside to read and post messages. Students earn points for posting constructive messages, and each week the student who posts the best suggestion earns money to spend in the contract store which has a number of attractive items for purchase.

2.  Mailbox

Each student has a personal online mailbox (below) where he/she can receive mail from teachers and administrators and can respond to them.

3.  Weekly Menu and Field Day Menu

4.  Wellness Program Resources

A new feature currently being developed will allow students to access the JRC Wellness Web Site, which contains a wealth of valuable information concerning nutrition and wellness. Below is a screen showing a list of books on the topic.

5.  Calendar

Students can view a calendar (below) that shows upcoming events, such as home visits, field trips and doctor's appointments. They can also enter their own personal events on the calendar. This is very useful for transitional students who have many job interviews and deadlines to meet.

6.  Suggestion Box

Students can submit suggestions and complaints to the school administrators (see below). These suggestions and complaints can be submitted with their name or anonymously. All suggestions and complaints are taken very seriously and followed up on.

Some of the other features of this web site include messages from former JRC students posted so that current students can see how former students are doing. Students can view desirable health goals and ask the nutritionist a question. Students have access to rules for all environments and situations at JRC. Each week, students who have met a certain criteria have their pictures posted on the home page of the web site. This can happen if a student earns the most points in a week or shows the most improvement in his/her academics or behaviors.. Students can also create a profile where they can list favorite movies, music artists, hobbies, and television shows. This way they can see if any staff or students share common interests.
